I just read this on godaddy:

PLEASE NOTE: We recommend that you DO NOT use an email address from a free service (e.g. Yahoo!® or Hotmail) with your account information. Instead, please enter a traditional address, such as that from a GoDaddy.com account, or one issued to you by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). This gives us better assurance of being able to contact you should we need to, as well as helping us protect your account and prevent fraud.

Ive read on here that one shouldn't use private registration, but use one's personal contact details when registering domain names..so in case..something happens to the registrar the domain is registered with your name.

But why would it be so important to not use an e-mail address from a free service? Do they only state this, because some people might be careless with them have their free accounts suspended (b/c of not logging in long enough, etc.) and then can't be contacted?

Free accounts = easy way to spam from different email addresses. Luckily, my registrar doesn't have that and I can use my GMail account (excellent spam filtering).

Yes better to use your own details rather than a privacy service - Just use a different address from your regular email address. That way you can identify which emails came through the WHOIS and if you get spam you simply change the WHOIS email address.

whois@yourname.info
then whois2@yourname.info

etc.

but what if your buying your first ever domain name and you only have a hotmail account? Then what happens?

Luckily my registrar accepts hotmail accounts. But just speaking out to those who might be in the same situation.

Do you find a free email hosting site thats not very well known and therefore will be accepted or what?
