There's a domain name that I want in the .es (Spain) extension. On the official site (nic.es) it says that the domain name is a "reserved name". However, I can go to practically any of the registrars, and they will give me the option of registering the domain. I haven't tried to process the registration yet. Does this mean that if I try to register the "reserved name" domain that the registration will be rejected? My main concern is just regarding losing my money if my registration were to be rejected. I don't think there's any .es registers who offer a money back guarantee?

I had this happen with a .at domain. I got my money back.

It's not uncommon for this to happen with smaller ccTLDs. The registrars are a bit lazy with keeping up with the rules of the various registries.

I wouldn't waste my time trying to register it. It's not going to work, so why bother?

You might want to drop a line to the registry to ask if the rules have changed, and to the registrar to point-out their error.
