A few months ago I purchased a domain though a backorder, we'll call it examples.org (because it is a plural version of a keyword and a dot org). It cost me the $60 backorder fee, that's it. No auction. I was also able to get examplesonline.com, examplesonline.org, exonline.com (very common acronym) all for the $60, one or two even dropped down to $9.

I've done a little working on the site but nothing too serious, it is on my list of projects to do, though.

I checked a domain reseller site (named after a body of water some people have in their backyards) and saw example.info for sale. I decide why not put a bid in, I put down $100.

Turns out that the owner wants $900 for the domain (no site, no traffic).

Considering I got about half a dozen (better, IMO) related domains combined for less than half of this one,

A - Is the seller off on how much it is worth?
B - Was I extremely lucky with my purchases?
C - Have I really underestimated the value of .info domains (I do own several, though).

Could be all of the above, could be
D) he saw someone snapping up similar .org names and decided that someone must be interested in it
E) he's offering it for $900, but will actually sell it for $50 (or less)

The system instantly rejected my $100 bid, so I know he wants at least more than that. :(

Eh, oh well.

It difficult to tell w/o knowing the name and/or the registrant. We enquired about a good generic .info on behalf of one of our clients and the guy wanted $1.8 million LOL (Needless to say the clients new site is now on a longer $10 .com)

Two word combos have been fetching more in the last few months.

A couple of exmaples sold in the last couple of weeks
freehoroscope.info 1,500 Euro = $2,140
ballkleider.info 2150 euro = $3060

bookclub.info $4,500 (At the Moniker auction)

It's say this exact keyword match is a well known product. Everyone on this board knows what it is and most people probably either currently have, at one time had, or knows someone who currently has one. It is easily recognized worldwide.

Honestly, I was shocked at the domains that I've gotten with keywordsonline.com, kwsite.com (kw = abbreviation of keyword), keywordsonline.info, and so on, especially at the prices I got them at.

As for the values, I am just surprised that someone is asking so much for a .info when I got the .org for 1 / 15th of what they are asking for.

Edit: Thank you for the hint. On a whim, I checked and was able to get exampleclubs.org, exampleclubs.info, and exclubs.com

(the plural version would be far more common than the singular version).

I guess this is a niche market I could build a good site on? Maybe I should move it to the top of the list. :)

I currently own 17 exact keyword domains (well, keywordsonline.com, keywords.info, kwsite.com, keywords.org, plus 35 close domains (not exact match, but an item that is close to it (like if the keyword was automobile and I also had minivan, truck etc..).

A shark bought a keyword .eu domain as soon as it became available last year.

Enquiries, six months later, revealed they wanted USD 50 000 for it.

We bought the key-word (hyphenated) version of the domain for I think USD 20 or so.

I guess we'll get the non-hyphenated version for next to nothing sooner or later as there is no-one else that could make use of that domain.
