Looking at an expensive .net domain

I am looking at buying a .net domain. It seems perfect from this standpoint - I am targetting a 2-word keyword (eg. blue widgets) and I found this name for sale and it would be the equivalent of bluewidgets.net. The site owner wants $3,000 for it, so before I dish out that kind of money, I thought that I'd ask questions. From a SEO standpoint, will I get a good boost for blue widgets? Is the name advantageous? Do SE's see it the same as the .com? Your experience would greatly help me make this decision.

The keyword phrase I'm targeting is kinda competitve. I wouldn't say very competitive, but I'll still have my seo work cut out for me. Oh, and the domain is obviously old but there hasn't been a site there for quite some time. Thanks

BTW- This is my first post in forever. If this goes in another category, let me know.

There is no question that there is some seo value in having an exact match url that is an old domain. If you are going to spend a lot of time or money on seo, then it is probably worth your while. also, you will get cheaper clicks and a higher ctr on ppc if your domain name is an exact match.

Yes, it's worth it. My biggest site is blue widgets .net which I've had for over 7 years. I rank better than the .COMpetitors :) There's more to being successful than having a good domain name, but even a .net can be big!
