I thought I read somewhere that you have to wait 6 months after registering a domain name to sell it? Is that true?

No, but I would check the agreement you agreed to at the time of registering the domain.

Quite a few registrars make you wait 60 days after create date before allowing you to move it. Some (read: crappy) require a 60 day wait after any WHOIS change.
