Can I move my two domains out, or am I screwed? I would offer to pay them for
any cost in registering the domains plus any additional cost.
I never used any of their services other than registering the domains.
Has the ship sailed on these domains or do I stand a chance of retrieving them?

[edit reason] See Sticky; TOS [/edit]
Rigid or not, if you signed the contract, they have a perfect right to expect you to honour it.
If so, then settle the year's contract, and put it behind you.
If they are being unreasonable, and the contract should NOT be binding you, then there's always a lawyer. But that will almost certainly cost you much, much, much more than one years hosting. And if you are in a different country, you can double that.
Your "rights" depends on the original agreement; the practicalities says "Give 'em the money and walk away."

[edit reason] Edited OP so necessary to remove reference to OP [/edit]
large German hosting company (who shall remain nameless).
I assume it's the "one" all experienced UK webmasters know of that continues to "deceive" the whereabouts of its UK servers?

Quite simply, in whose name are they registered?
Your name? Do what you like and if they try anything go straight to Nominet.
Their name, gotcha!
