Name Available, Registrar Insists It's Not!

Even Nominet says it's not registered

My .co.uk registrar's system insist that a name I wish to register is not available, Nominet's whois and every other registrar I try it with all say it's available.

I even know who used to own it and they let it lapse ages ago. Naturally I could buy it elsewhere however with quite a few .co.uk names I would prefer to keep them all in one place.

I've e-mailed their support to see why they believe it's registered but surely they're all accessing the same database information?

HuskyPup - ditto what bwnbwn said.

On the other side of the "registry/registrar/whois" update coin, today I registered two domains that showed "everywhere" as "unavailable".

The proof -- so to speak -- lies in trying to register the domain(s) -- and see if they are "registerable" (howz 'dat for a word ;-)

Register them anyplace you can -- now! ;-) Transfer later.
