6+ Million .cn Names

Explosion in registrations

I decided it was time to add some more .cn names for future business purposes when I found many of the names I fancied were already taken whereas only a few months ago almost anything I wanted could have been bought.

So, looking around for statistics I came across the cnnic.net site for 31st July 2007 showing 6,350,127 registrations:

[cnnic.net.cn...]

Just how accurate this is I have no idea however I also found details on another Chinese website claiming that more than 60% of Chinese sites were under a .cn.

Time to get those sites registered methinks!

You can see the growth in the first chart of the Executive Summary of the August 2007 issue of VerSign's Domain Industry Brief.

[verisign.com...]

Another interesting thing in that chart is .com seems to be leveling off.

Thanks gpmgroup, I was looking all over the place for that info, I had it bookmarked and lost it.

Doh!

New buyers simply can't imagine a word combo that is still available.

Maybe :) however manual registrations by humans are not statistically significant.

A few months ago I actually attempted to register a .cn domain.

I had the world of troubles with the registration and had to be refunded eventually - with no domain.

I hope this has been sorted out by now.

I've never had a problem with mine and I've had them 21/2 years, maybe your registrar/service provider? Realistically I can't think of a reason why you should have had a problem.

I register through my German registrar, they seem to have good relations with all their "suppliers":-)

Today I've actually bought some more .cn and within a very short time they were up and running with splash pages, the only delay was the global DNS, nothing else.

Occasionally our Chinese offices have had e-mails interrupted, once or twice a year, but nothing significant since we copy and back-up to gmail and that always seems to work!

Any language you like!

I also have to inform that .in is starting to sell well...
