Where to Shop Premium Domain Names?

domain name shopping

I'm shopping for a premium domain name(s) and could use some suggestions for places to shop? My budget is around $5k for this particular domain. I've been looking at sedo, godaddy, and a couple of others. It is frustrating that there is no centralized way to shop "used" domains. Or is there? Any suggestions?

"Premium domains" and "$5K" do not a match in heaven make, nor even on earth, least not in 2007.

You would do well to define exactly what you wish to hunt - which market vertical, for instance - and then make a list of domains that might serve your needs relative to that vertical. "Browse to" those domains to see if they are a website, parked or simply sitting registered yet unused.

Once you have determined your domain targets and whether they might be available (undeveloped) you can make your offers or inquiries in whatever manner you choose.

To approach the issue in the manner you have described seems a bit likely to lead to much time wasted.

$5,000.00 will likely get your a 2 or 3 word domain with some slight traffic of no particularly great value. You might get lucky, but luck is usally the product of a great deal of work.

When I say "premium", I guess I mean a domain that doesn't totally suck. Most attractive domains in the particular niche I'm looking at are all snapped up. Based on the research I've already done, $5k can still grab a pretty decent domain in this niche. I've contacted a few domain owners directly and received prices of $2500-$5000, so I don't think my price is very far off. I'm just looking of someplace I can do a lot of "comparison shopping" between the various domain resale sites etc..

I've gotten some "premium" domain names for a registration fee, others for a 'backorder' fee. ;)

Unless you have your heart and soul set on example.com, search around for variations. examples.com , examplesonline.com, myexamples.com, and so on.

As for comparison shopping, that all depends on where the owner has them for sale. You might not be able to compate domains from siteA and siteB, your best bet is if the owners have them listed on the same site.

IMO - your best bet is to shop around, but don't forget drop-name and backorder services, plus just for fun, see what's out there for unregistered domains, you might hit gold one day for a simple registration fee.

You might want to look up DDN "Domain Distribution Network" its pretty new and designed to removed the market inefficiencies you describe. Essentially an after market distribution service but very new so you're a head of the curve so to speak.
