i am one of those stupid idiots who entered fake details when i bought my domain name. (you don't have to tell me that i'm dumb - i already know)
this was years ago - when i had a few worries about internet privacy. needless to say, i regretted it soon after.

i managed to correct my .coms easy enough, but when i went to change my .co.uks i saw that they wanted a copy of some kind of household bill from the original person as proof you were actually them. but of course i couldn't provide it, because they didn't exist.
that got me a bit worried. what if i ever wanted to sell the website on? i would be up sht creek then.

so, to cut a long story short, i contacted nominet and just owned up. i told them straight out that i was a dumb idiot who faked it, and what could i possibly do to correct it.
and to my surprise they were fine about it.
they just asked for some other kind of proof, which i provided, and that was that. they changed it with no fuss at all.

so if anyone else is out there with fake details, and have it nagging in the back of their mind about it causing problems later down the line, then take some advice from me and just fess up. if you hold your hands up and don't make excuses then they will probably be fine too.

I have used a PO Box from day 1. The phone number is a business line that goes straight to voice mail. That ensures privacy without having to pay extra for a private registration. In fact, when I started out I don't think they even had that option.
