How to protect your .org website from being copied by .com owner?

What steps might I take? What's the best plan of attack? Is there nothing to do?

I have a fear... I want to develop a widget.org website, which will primarily be widget reviews by the public.

I understand that some of my visitors will try widget.com either by mistake or just to see what's there... is there anything I can do to stop widget.com from setting up a widget reviews website similar to widgets.org?

If nobody owns the dot-com name, then buy it yourself, park it, and point it at your dot-org name.

(I did something similar. I have a math site, but it's only "math" -- singular -- in American English; in British English, it's "maths" -- plural. So I registered the pluralization of my domain name, parked it, and pointed it to the singular name. People who type the pluralized version are automatically directed to my site.)

If somebody else owns the dot-com name, though, then you're probably out of luck.

Unless you can prove trademark rights (which isn't as magical, absolute, and simple as some people tend to believe) and all that, then no.

Well the .com is not avaliable, if it was I would be almost crazy to start a .org instead of a .com

My other fear is that if the .com holder realizes the .org is proving profitable they he will want more money if I try to buy the .com!

Of course. Real estate always goes up in value if someone builds a nice house next to it.
