I have quite a collection of .com names, some of them have been developed into very successful websites. I don't have any domain names other than .com's unless I have I bought them to compliment the .com's I already have. I say this to show that maybe I am too sheltered and too cautious in my domain purchases.

While looking for a name for a new website, I've come across the perfect one-word generic which is exactly what the new site is supposed to be for, except it's a .cc name. Basically the asking price posted on the name is $200, which I thought was a type-o at first.

So what's the deal with .cc's? I guess I would never get any type in traffic with it. I don't recall seeing .cc's in the SERP's, but I'm sure they are there just like any other tld. I'm certain that the .com version of this word would sell for several hundred thousand dollars if it was for sale. Is there something I'm overlooking or is this a really good deal?

The "cc" domain is one of the country code TLDs, assigned to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

Nothing special except that a short word - or a good one - is a little more likely to be available.

Several companies market them at .com prices and make a tidy profit.

Can be confusing - especially if the .com is successful.
