Which doman should I use to promote a site?

First, it's hard to write this message without violating any ToS for WW. I've been editing for a while now, cutting and being as vague, while truthful and to the point, as possible. If someone wants to PM me about this, I might be able to discuss it a little more in depth, but this is something that when I launch it, I want it to be fully and properly launched. I don't want to give out all the details since there are still a few domains I'd like to try to get for this project that are expiring in the next couple of months. I hope to have the whole project launched by December (yes, I have a lot of work ahead of me).

I'm currently building up an informational site for an industry. It's a world known product (number one in it's overall industry).

I've been acquiring domains for it, what's available, some on backorder for this site (I personally feel this industry needs a lot of help and with the right people this site could make a difference). I am planning to promote one domain for the site, but have others pointed to, it just in case.

Unfortunately, most of the .coms are taken :(.

Say everyone knows this item as "EXAMPLE", most people would call it "EXAMPLEs"). There's also a shorter version, I'll call "EX" that is also easily recognized as this product.

The domains I own are:
EXAMPLEsonline.com (so far, the only .com I own)
EXAMPLE.org
EXAMPLEs.org
EXonline.info

I know the *huge* importance of .coms, but the .com I have is a little long, the EXAMPLEs and EXAMPLE .orgs are perfect, excellent for SEO (they are exacty what the item is) but they're a .org, probabaly third in line (behind the allmighty .com and .net). But, this would technically be an organization (not for profit). The .info, while my last choice, would also be suitable since it is ain informational site.

To give a little bit of a background on this industry, it is huge. It is one of the most recognizable products, by name or sight in the world.

The only problem is that one of the largest organizations in the world that (for the lack of a better term) devolops the future of this industry, doesn't care on improving the industry at all, they only care about making it easier on themselves and fattening their own wallets (trust me, there is a lot at stake here) they don't even go by their own standards. There are smaller organizations, who do not answer to the largest one, who do want to improve the industry, the right way. Unfortunately, all of these put together are most likely smaller than the largest one, including the organization that "invented" this industry.

I'm trying to promote the real thing, not the ones that the large organization wants to promote. I am *not* doing this for any financial gain, this industry has a lot at stake and doing things the wrong way will have catastrophic results if left the way its going.

To give a grasp on the size of this industry, I'm willing to bet:
x
*Everyone who reads this knows the product and will know one on sight

*Everyone who reads this either has owned, currently owns, or has a friend (someone you'd go hang out with) or family member who has, or had, one of these.

*Most people here, if shown the real thing, will respect it as the real thing.

*Most people here, if they wanted to, could go out and acquire one of these products within a week, most would be that day.

This item is specific, it's not a general term, and people get this "product" because it is the "product".

The .com name is only important if you want to promote the name in the real world (like on the radio, in a newspaper, etc). Online it wouldn't matter as much. I think the .org would be better online since it is the exact keyword.

You could have dual campaigns. You could promote the .org online, and the .com in the real world.

BTW, did you check:
EXAMPLEinfo.com
EXAMPLE411.com
eEXAMPLE.com
iEXAMPLE.com
myEXAMPLE.com
theEXAMPLE.com

Sticky me the name if you would like and I'll help you brainstorm a little.

EXAMPLEinfo.com
EXAMPLE411.com
eEXAMPLE.com
iEXAMPLE.com
myEXAMPLE.com
theEXAMPLE.com

For the ones that would make sense, none of these .coms are available. It's hard to find one that is easily promotable.

My registrar is very limites with suggestions (my-example.___, exampleonline.___ etc..). I'm wondering if there is a better choice, even phychicwhois?
examplesoline.com is my best bet so far, which may be my choice for an out-of-web campaign.

Psychic whois might help. I will sticky mail you the link to another domain suggestion site. It's woirthwhile keep looking while you're developing the site. If you're not launching until the end of the year, you still have a few months to decide on a name.

I've been on psychicwhois, their suggestions aren't too bad, but all taken. :(

Thanx for the sticky, I'll go check it out.

I just fond (and registered)

realEXs.com

(Using the above example template).

8 letters, too. I think that might be it.

I just did a Google search for "EX" and Hits #2-20 were all related to EXAMPLE. I think it's a good one.

Google'ing real EXs gave me 6 out of the first 10, not bad.

go for the .org

Having the exact keyword will give you a big boost in the SERPS - and .orgs are perfect for informational sites.

They also have a lot of credibility - I love to click on a .org link, I feel I'm going to get the information I want, without being 'sold' anything - although .orgs can be a money earner too :-)

For SEO, I have all of the domains mentioned in my OP and I'm going to have them all pointed to the same folder though my registrar.

I am leaning towards EXAMPLEs.org, but unfortunately, the .com is pointed to a related topic, but not for betterment of the industry and the .net looks like it's all pay-per-click ads (most barely related to the industry, if related at all).

I was able to get allEXAMPLEs.net

Not a bad one, but I think I'll just point it and not use that for promotion.
