We will begin assessing VAT on all applicable purchases made starting August 3, 2007 and going forward.

It won't be retrospective, don't worry!

Every company that does business in the EU has to comply with tax laws - and VAT cuts in once their business reaches a certain size.

Those with VAT accounts will already be familiar with the set up - for the rest, there'll be an extra % on top of their charges in future - something to consider when comparing fees in future.

Obviously you need to be VAT registered to reclaim VAT.

I am in the UK and interestingly when buying names from a UK registrar one has to pay the VAT, which is subsequentky reclaimed, however when I buy from my German registrar I only have to provide my VAT number and the VAT element is not charged.
