idn not registered - no dns records

but cant register it!

strange - i've been looking at a domain in japaense/kanji and it shows no record of being registered and most of the registrars i checked out said unavailable apart from one which i duly tried for it but instantly got two messages - domain registered then its unavailable we'll send you a refund.

what's going on?

does anybody have any idea why there is absolutely no entry for this domain in dns yet its not possible to register?!?!

ah ha!

apparently with kanji characters there is a top level agreement at verisign which states that similar characters cannot be registered.

unfortunately the .com for japanese (langauge) has a similar registration so cant be registered.
