What are typos worth? 150K visitors per day if you're UTube.com

Following up on [webmasterworld.com...] from back in November.

utube.com, the site of Universal Tube and Rollform Equipment, still is going forward with their suit against Google.

These guys were on NPR yesterday.
- 150,000 hits per day (reported 70K in november), almost all of them typos from youtube.com
- 17,000/month in server costs (really, that seems high?)
- numerous crashes and significant downtime
- unable to answer customer mail anymore because their contact form is mostly being used for people sending messages that say things like "Where are the #*$!ing videos", "1.5billion for this piece fo #*$!" as well as thousands of fake orders and fake employment apps, most vulgar and/or insulting.

On the plus side, their ringtone affiliate links are covering the cost of hosting.

I heard the same story ergophobe. The revenue not only covers the increased hosting/bandwidth costs but also their legal fees for prosecuting the claim for damages. When I heard that I started to think they might not have a damages claim. Just drop the lawsuit and go with a strategy to maximize the incidental income from the unintended traffic.

Sounds like the basis of a legal settlement to me.;)

Every time someone sees the word 'utube.com'... unfortunately they get more confused about the correct spelling of 'youtube.com'
