So, I've got this site I'm working on and we're using this term and trying to brand it and we found a guy who owns that domain for it, he's not using it at all, it's about 5 years old.

I think we made the mistake of telling him we're trying to brand it so he's asking for $75k! It's not even getting lots of type-in (if any)

He's trying to bull#*$! us by telling us he can sell it for millions at the auctions.

I think we're still early in the game that we can just cut and release the term and use something else, but would rather use the term.

What can we say to the guy to lower his price? I mean, at most it's worth $1k.

Right. If he really could do that, then why is he offering it to you for only $75K? Oh, I know- it's because he's such a nice guy! :)

Yup. Kinda hard to go back on that.

Offer him $1K (or whatever you're willing to pay) and walk away if he doesn't accept it. As you said, it's early in the game and you can use something else.
