If you have a website called www.dogs.com for example, it is highly ranked for your keywords with PR5.

Lets say your purchase a website called www.cats.com or rank a new website called www.cats.com which is #1 on Google for cats due to backlinks with anchor texts.

Then you delete the whole www.cats.com website and 301 it to www.dogs.com

Question - Will www.cats.com still be #1 on Google due to backlinks even though it is redirecting to www.dogs.com?

Will www.dogs.com replace the #1 spot instead of www.cats.com because www.cats.com got transfered therefore the backlinks and anchor texts got transfered?

Depends on relevance and whether you maintain the existing content on the purchased domain.

I sold a site that ranked highly for my city name. I watched it slowly drop off of the first page as the new owner altered the content...
