When Does Google re-Index Domain Ownership?

Domain privacy CAN hurt rankings!

My site is canadian (but .com) and was started in late 2000, early 2001. I made the mistake of using domain privacy last fall thinking it would reduce spam.

I discovered in Feb 07 that if someone in Canada checked the box ‘only pages from Canada’, I wasn’t listed. My traffic has been cut significantly.

I’m really curious how often google indexes domain ownership information. I removed the Privacy thing immediately (back in Feb 07) and now I have to wait until they re-index me as being a site located in Canada. Anyone know how often they do this or is there a way to request they identify me correctly?

To my knowledge, appearing in Google country specific results is acheived through either your TLD (so no, you have a .com not a .ca) and the IP address you get from your hosting.
There are also claims that you can get in there with a number of backlinks in there - I haven't tested this.
I have never seen any suggestion that the country shown in the domain registration affects this placement - do please keep us up to date if it happens! but I would suggest you review your IP address to see what your location is.

FTR - I am in Australia and I have a .com that shows the same in the rego. At one point I was hosted in Canada and I appeared in google.ca local results but *NOT* in Google.com.au local results. I moved the hosting to a .au host (getting me a .au IP) and the results reversed - I appeared in the .au results and not the .ca results.

So my opinion is that you are barking up the wrong tree :)
