Do international internet users usually type in their national TLD or do they often go for .com, too?

I'm wondering about France and Germany in particular. Is the .fr and .de in those cases worth far more than the .com? (if the domain name is a word in either French/German - NOT in English, of course!)

I just read on a German discussion board, that .de got like 80% or so of all type-ins! (I believe it might be similar in France).

Well .de is a super ccTLD (over 10M .de domains registered) rather than just a medium sized on like .fr. So with such a huge userbase, it is obvious that .de is going to be the more valuable of the two.
