OK, I admit, the article seems more like an ad than an article, but the special characters part of it seemed interesting. -G

VeriSign is currently handling registrations for the .US domains as well. The .US domains are free (mostly) although they are quite cumbersome (according to administrative Law of the US Dept of Commerce) when issued. EXAMPLE: www.ci.daytona-beach.fl.us

Since the switch to VeriSign last Fall, the processing time for a .US domain request has become interminable (taking over a month for one of my current domain requests) and the concept of "customer service" is non existant. The response to my asking a question results in a reply with a form letter from VeriSign.

Seems to me that VeriSign is actually discouraging people from requesting .US domains. If I was in a hurry, I would have given up and forked over the 10 bucks for another dot-com by now.
