No email, no website. Could ISP be a goner?

And are the emails backed up?

A family member has asked me for some advice with regards to domains, but I don't know the answers.

Their website cannot be reached, although the bill has been paid (checked on whois) and the next payment is only due around June this year. They have had no emails. The person responsible for their hosting, uses an ISP in the UK and says he cannot get hold of them (the ISP) and thinks they have gone under, without informing him. Apparently they don't answer any telephone calls nor emails (I don't know if the emails bounced back).

I checked Netcraft and the only details which seem to be helpful are:

Netblock owner: ClaraNET routed customer range

Is there any way of getting hold of these emails, even though the site is down? They can't access their webmail. Another question: Are these emails backed up somewhere, or are they lost forever?

Tense times!

Thanks for any responses.

Contact a very local solicitor - near the "missing company" - and have him/her write a letter or perform an initial investigation.

Sometimes a little local effort can get people's attention. The few times I sought out local help it worked like a charm. Suddenly you're not this remote person that someone thinks they will never have to deal with.

Have you tried the phone or postal mail?

Seriously. Somehow, the coming of the internet gave everyone amnesia that there are other, more effective ways to communicate.

No, as it's a third party "supplier", I'm not sure how to get the ISPs details from the person who is responsible for selling the hosting service.

Also, they now have been told that they have lost those e-mails, which I don't believe can be true. Surely an ISP backs up their e-mails.
