Are generic domains too boring?

First off, we all know the potential power of generic domains.

The benefits:

- free typin traffic
- higher CTR on adword campaigns due to targetted URL
- increased trust from visitors
- high resale value

Yes we would all want to own a generic domain.

BUT, don't you find that generic domains tend to be 'boring'? A branded domain tends to have some flavor to it...

(I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say here!)

Sure, I see your point. Otherwise search.tld would be the #1 search engine :)

A good branded domain name is so hard to come by and that's where the generic keyword laced domains rose up and became quite popular.
A good branded domain is gold if you can come up with one for sure.

Branders are always good for standing out from the crowd. Although generics are also good for ad campaigns...really depends on your business.

I second webwork, I will even give you a free toaster if you transfer your generics today...lol

With a generic you have a whole education system teaching kids "your" word.
Making you brand name anywhere as familiar would require lots of effort and expense but you can advantageously dictate the feeling it evokes. And of course you would want it to be exciting.

Generic is probably better unless your biz is bigger than the web. Even if it is bland, it's the cheapest way to brand. Branding involves name remembrance; quality generics are easy to remember.

I would also provide a good home for boring generics, have you any single word, product generics you're particularly bored with :)
