Hi!

I am the owner of [example.com] which I registered with [a company] in the year 2000. Anyhow, [the company] got bought by some other company and so now my control panel is something called names4ever and aplus.

My problem is this: my whois results are always screwy. My name is nowhere to be found there, it's registered under Abacus America or something. This used to be a non-issue before because I just renew it yearly via [the company I registered the domain with], but now I am selling my domain and transferring it to another owner I am having problems because the control panel is practically useless -- I can't do anything from there. Can't change contact details and such. And the support people from [the company I registered the domain with] are non-responsive. The transaction is already under way. What can I do? Seems my domain is taken hostage by them. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. But please remove specific names here since it's current against the forum charter to do so unless otherwise explicitly allowed by the mods.

Anyway, do a basic WHOIS check and note the line "registrar". That's whom you can contact regarding this.

Since you got the domain name originally through a reseller, you ought to know that legal agreements between the registrar and their reseller force the former to refer end-users to the latter first for resolution. If you've honestly exhausted all means of such with the reseller, then provide as many details as possible to the registrar and ask for what options, if any, they can give.

Hope for the best, expect the worst, prepare accordingly. Good luck.
