the nameserver bit has me really confused.
if i change the 'parked' NS's of my domain registrar to new NS's for webspace are the 'A records' that point the domain to the webspace automatically changed by the (new)website host or do i have to change them also via the dns control of my registrar ie NS's, A records and anything else?
cheers.

Depends on the host, but most likely the answer is "No".
If you change the nameservers then the new nameserver will usually have a "blank" configuration for your domain (or have A records which point to a holding server - "this domain was recently registered by an example.com Inc customer and has not been configured")
Change the nameservers then immediately log in to the new nameserver control panel and see what's there - most likely nothing or useless records. Delete them and put the correct records in...
I've done this at least a dozen times over the last week and it's not a big deal.
