My domain registrar has screwed up my domain registered with them, which was with them for the last 3 years. For some strange reason, they have recently updated old information about organization name and address, the admin and technical information is correct while the organization name is old information this information is in fact 5 year old information which was lying in some backup of theirs I registered the domain much after this had changed.

When I contacted them they deny changing it and said I must have changed it.
When I asked if I have changed it where do I change it back.
Then they replied saying to change it I will have to give a affidavit, id proof and also pay them around 10$ then if the documents are in order they will update in around 6 weeks.

Are they allowed to charge this money?
Is it ok to leave the organization name as it is since the admin and the technical details are correct?
Is there any other way to update the organization name and address in the whois information?

As it's a .com just transfer the name to a different registrar, all it will cost is extra year on the registration term. Most (other) registrars allow you edit ALL the details from their control panel.

You may be asked to confirm the transfer, so you need to make sure you have access to emails sent to the admin address and sometimes the owner address.
