I have numerous domains (from years ago) with a very well known and expensive registrar that are up for renewal. I was unlocking them to make a transfer and a message reads " if you are unlocking to change providers we will do whatever it takes to keep you."

Hmmm. These folks are twice what I pay now from a likewise credible and well-known provider. Do you think they will drop their price to match the other? I've never really thought about it, but are numerous registrations negotiated?

I've seen big registrars offer low price incentives to keep customers.

Especially when you try to tranfer a domain.

If you're paying too much at that registrar, why not switch to a lower priced (reputable) registrar?

If it's who I think it is, then yes they'll offer you a lower price than what their website says.

Give them a call. They treat these things on a case to case basis.

Registrars typically volume discount. Many are priced closely if you negotiate on price.

However registars vary with regards to:

Security
Persoanlized Service
Bulk management tools
Aftermarket Sale, Escrow, and Appraisals
