I'm no dns expert, so please excuse me if this is totally stupid.

I have a main domain for my website, and want to point it to my own nameservers which aren't setup yet.

The reason being I want my nameservers to be of the same domain name.

How would I do this?

I assume that there would be some kind of 'loop' involved that would prevent me from first setting up nameservers on the domain, and then pointing that domain to those nameservers.

I also want to avoid using a records.

The only thing i can think of is buying another domain to use as a second set of nameservers, but is this necessary?

Many thanks in advance.

If you mean you want to create nameservers using the parent domain name and you want to
attach them to it, just ask the registrar. Some will allow you to do both at the same time.
