Using Your .MOBI Domain Name

Now that I have a .MOBI domain, what can I do with it?

I was registering a domain name and, while I was doing so, I decided to look for alternative domain names in my niche (which was unrelated to the domain I was registering, but I was there, so...). Inspired by the recent type-in traffic discussions, I decided to see what keyword domains were left available in my niche. As my starting point, I used a keyword-keyword .COM for my niche, which I know to be taken, but I wanted to see the suggested domains.

Lo and behold, the .MOBI was available. Every other extension (except .TV) was taken. After mulling it over for a very short while, I registered it.

So, now that I have a .MOBI domain name, what can I do with it? Will people be buying through their mobile phones? Or just looking for info, and then buying later from their desktop? I can't imagine people pulling out their credit cards on a crowded bus to buy something on their phone. Or, do mobile devices store their credit card info for faster entry?

Now that I have the domain, I'm not sure how to best utilize it.

I did the same, and I feel the same. I think I bought the .MOBI domain name purely as a future investment, on a "wait and see" basis, and to prevent any later regrets such as "I wish I'd bought it then" (a sensation that pops up from time to time in connection with .com domains I should have bought when I had the chance).

If you're a web page designer, I suppose you can convince your clients they need a .MOBI site, and that you'll be happy to build it for them. After all, while sitting on a busy train, they might decide they're in the mood to buy some widgets. ;-)
