Hi,
I have found a suitable domain name for automobile sector which has my country name in it as well I have all the tlds registered for this domain name including my country .tld

My main target is to get visitors from my country (business model). If my domain name is India#*$!#*$!XX should i select a .COM or .IN for my website?
I will be hosting on US based Hosting providers (cannot select an Indian host due to very huge hosting costs).

so final question comes to should i go for .IN or .COM if already I am using my country keyword in Domain name?

I am little confused, if there shall be any problems?

Thank You.

Hi, Do not cut corners! I mean

1. Register both the .COM and .IN. I would even suggest for registering .NET, .ORG and .CO.IN.
2. Redirect all other domains to your main domain.
3. Your main domain should be .COM even if it is India centric. If at any time you stretch your business you may opt for IP-targeting in a way that users from India land at your .IN website.

After all, .COM has a global acceptance and people of India are too fond of it. I can say that coz I am an Indian.

Good luck.

If you want to appear in google.co.in SERPS for 'pages from India' then you will have to either host in India or use a .in TLD
It depends what that traffic is worth to you.
I'd definitely still buy both domain names, its just a matter of deciding which is the 'real' domain and 301 all the others.

Hello,
I have all the global tlds (.com, .net, .org, .info, etc.) registered including my local country specific TLDs.

However, I have a question here which I am unable to answer myself even after reading through thousands of pages... does .COM leads .IN domain in search results?
My practical expereince is 50 -50 here.

I am planning to launch the site on .IN domain (cause pages from India in google) gets me decent amount of traffic on my other sites.

Hopefully, my project should not fail on global end (domain tld selection). If someone has better suggestions/guidance please post your replies.

Thanks.

In my experience .in is better for getting Indian traffic, though Indian traffic is difficult to monetise.

Hi caran1,

I disagree with your point here. .IN won't attract as much Indian traffic as .COM. Even Google and Yahoo are using IP targeting for landing people of India at their India websites. .COM has made such an impact on the mind of users that any visitor to a website types in sitename.COM first and then any other extension.

Sandyk20, is vulnerable to loose high traffic if .IN is made instead of .COM.

.com is popular, but for .in you can get some very good domain names. Also .in is costlier. I have observed that many .de websites are popular. Depends on whether you will get type in traffic or search engine traffic. I am focussing on .in since the .com usually cost thousands of dollars.

hey paru,
I am planning to launch the site on .IN domain and 301 re-direct .COM to .IN so this wont loose any lazy traffic either.

But what makes people say its hard to monetize .IN domains?

There are very few direct advertisers in India on Adwords, most advertising is through SEM firms. They pay very less compared to other traffic
