What are the current rules for .us domains for NON US people.

I Want to get a .us domain.
Namecheap want me to choose one out of these options:

1)A natural person shown is a US Citizen
2)A natural person who is a Permanent Resident
3)An entity or organization
4)A foreign organization
5)Foreign organization has an office in US

Clearly I am not covered by point 1,2 and 5.
I don't own a firm or organization in any country.

what should I choose if I can book .us domains at all.

I am in the UK and I think I went for either 3 or 4 options, cant remember now, did not give it too much thought.

Should I have taken this more seriously?

cheers.

You can have the domain taken away if you do not meet the criteria.

.us certainly is not alone among ccTLDs in having these restrictions.

One somewhat odd requirement that I imagine almost no large website actually fulfills is that ALL of your domain servers must be located physically within the U.S.

I imagine the rationale for all this is to insure that .us sites remain within the reach of US laws. If out of reach, at least the ability exists to take or delete the domain.

As a practical matter, there probably is no problem unless you run into legal issues - or a mean competitor.
