new.net domains

Any actual results?

Just curious - I know a few folks here bought some of the new.net domains (.club, .shop, .inc, etc.) - has anyone put content up to see whether traffic could be generated?

The New.net site claims 44 million Internet users can now access these domains directly from their browser, although it appears they are inflating this a bit by counting multiple users per PC. I spot checked a couple of SEs, though, and didn't find any pages indexed for the New.net TLDs I checked. (This was in no way a scientific survey.) I'm wondering about actual results - anyone have any to report yet?

I haven't even come across any sites using these extensions. Know why? They don't seem to show up on Search Engines. And if they aren't usable on search engines, they are completely useless. But maybe things have changed since I did my research 6 or so months ago...

Gee, I don't even think they've been out for 6 months, have they? At least their big push for sales was just 3 months ago or so. I did some quick checks on a couple of SEs, too, without much in the way of results. I think Excite is a partner in this deal somehow, so perhaps they are accepting them?

Looks like they've only been selling these names for about [url=www.webmasterworld.com/forum25/184.htm]4 months[/url] now. That's hardly enough time to get into Excite ;)

All the new names will no doubt be treated fairly along with the rest of 'em.

I honestly can't see why penalizing one over the other would have any justification....on second thought if there was a chance to benefit financially then any search engine would be a partaker in prejudice.

Just the simple fact that you have to download some type of patch or plugin to "read" these sites makes me think that there must be some kind of technical problem that makes it impossible for them to appear on search engines. Anyone know of a URL using a new extension? With that info, we could do some tests on search engines, etc.

I received a reply from new.net on performance of their domains in search engines:

Currently, in order to submit your New.net domain URL into search engines
you will need to use the "long" URL. For example, if you own www.pie.shop,
you would need to submit it as www.pie.shop.new.net. We are actively
pursuing search engine partnerships so that domains can be submitted with
the "short" URL.

However, there are 2 search engines that were designed specifically for
New.net domains. You can submit your domain name to www.run.free and
www.newnetsearch.com.

I haven't yet looked for "long domain names" (as new.net calls them) in any search engines, although I would guess the performance of these third (or fourth?) level domains would not be as good as a typical dot-com.
