Hello all,

first, I want apology for my bad english, but I hope you understand me.

OK, lets come to my problem.

I have webspace without a domain, so, I registered a domain by namecheap.com, but this ist *not* my hoster for webspace. Only my domain hoster.

I want this domain now as my default domain for the webspace. By namecheap.com, I can choose "URL Redirect" and "URL Frame".

If I choose "URL Redirect", it redirects to the *real* adress (http://customer123456.hoster.com).

If I choose "URL Frame", my domainname is shown *always* in the topline, undersites are not displayed.

I want, that the domain name is shown in the topline, but if I click on a underside, there is shown "http://www.domain.tld/index.htm -> [domain.tld...]

Dou you know what I mean? I hope so.

Greetings
Stefan

You really need to get a web host that you can use your own domain name with.

About the only thing you can do is to alter all of your on-site URLs to include your fully-qualified domain name.

Thanks for your answer!

My webhost offers webspace *and* domains, but I want a domain with whois-protection, because I have a political blog, and my webhost don't offers domains with whois-protection. So, that's the problem.

Because of this, I registered a domain by namecheap.com, because I read in some forums, that this is a good hoster only for domains.

And now, I have this problem and don't know what to do.

Is there no possibility to use this domain as "default-domain" and not as "forwarding-domain" (sorry, I don't know how it's called correctly in english), or can I cancel the domain now...? :(

This form of accessing a website is usually just a convenience to allow you to access your site prior to setting-up a domain name.

Once you have a domain name, you have to tell your web host what the name is. (Usually by filling in a blank in a form on a "control panel".) It's impossible for us to tell you exactly how to do this, as there are too many hosting companies with too many ways of doing this. You will have to talk to your hosting company or review their online help.

You can then set-up an "A" record in your DNS, rather than using forwarding.

The only case where you would not be able to do this is if you are using free web hosting, very inexpensive hosting, or hosting that is provided incidental to having an ISP service. (For example, DSL and cable-modem access often comes with free web space.)

In this case, you are restricted to only "customer123456.example.com" type of addressing. In this case, I'd advise you to seek out another web hosting company.
