We have a site that is "namewidgetS.com" an ad serving company in the Cayman's has registered "namewidget.com". Does that have a negative affect on SEO? I know it creates a problem with people mistyping our domain name, but does it affect how SE's perceive our site? They scrape our site for some general topics but they do not duplicate content. Is there any general consensus on this?

I don't think it makes a difference for SEs; duplication would be a different matter. Having a distinct domain is certainly beneficial from the user-viewpoint, though.
