Has .travel taken off yet?

Have many been registered?

I don't normally watch CNN however I was in Italy and saw a tourism advert for Egypt and sure enough there was the domain extension.

I assume there are others around, maybe I have just not noticed them?

One thing is for certain is that it was obviously an easily memorable name etc.

Browsers are not compatible with that TLD. I believe you have to go to new.net and install some kind of plug-in to view their TLD's

<edit> I stand corrected. It appears you can either register .travel from new.net or from travel.travel, an ICANN approved registrar.

How are they able to offer it both ways. Also are people who installed the plug-in at new.net able to view the ICANN approved .travel extension?

Seems kind of confusing.

Personally, I don't think they will take off on a short run...the good ones (countries) are gone, the others not more useful than .info, .cc or alike.

I mean, even .info didn't do that well. So I would be surprised if even more "specific" TLDs were any better. We'll see.

When did they start at all? I checked some and they are not terribly expensive; and there seem to be some good ones around, it seems.

Rocker... .Travel is a new extension has nothing to do with New.Net

dauction, after I made my original post I remembered that .travel that was a new ICANN approved TLD so I edited it. However, I am wondering how new.net and travel.travel are both able to register domains using the .travel extension. It would seem to me that anyone with the plug-in from new.net would not be able to view any ICANN approved .travel sites.

Also, is your .travel site up and running and are you getting any type in or SE traffic?

You now I keep meaning to check on that ----If someone has the new.net plugin..which site do they end up on---

But I'm not really in the mood to download new.net spyware junk to test it though.. I'll search around see if I can find the answer..unless someone here has the new.net Plug-in and wants to test it .

SE traffic.. I have my .Travel redirected to my main site for now so no se traffic other than .Travels own directory/Search .

Are you a registered travel agent etc?

Only authentic travel and tourism entities are permitted to hold a .travel Internet domain name, providing consumers with valuable assurance that travel service suppliers in this exclusive Internet space are legitimate.

I've not read through all the bumpf so I have no idea if domainers are able to participate:-)

OptiRex, that would make sense - on new.net they don't say that you need to be registered as anything, though.
