My registrar, a UK based company (quite large) has frozen the account I had with them, because I supposedly breach their TOS.

I registered (quite a while back) a domain that vaguely ressembles theirs and they seem interested in getting hold of it.

So around two weeks ago I received an email telling me that my account had been frozen and that in order to re-activate it I should contact them within 10 days and transfer the domain over to them. I replied the same day to explain that the domain was mine, that I didn't break any rules and asking them to re-activate my account.

Since then, nothing. Zip. Nada.

I emailed them 5 times and still have not heard back. Not even to tell me that they are looking into it.

So what can I do to move all my domains away from them? I have around 30 with all kind of TLD (.co.uk, .com, .uk.com, .org, .net etc...)

Thanks

First thing you should do is make sure they are in fact the regisrar. In many cases companies will have another registration company in the background and will present them selves as the true registrar.

If this is the case then you can deal direct with the comany who registered your domain.

and don't forget that if you are talking about .uk domains you can deal directly with Nominet, and get your domains retagged (i.e. moved) that way.

Hi Mack,

no it's the registrar alright - as I said they are quite big

webdoctor, yes I've thought about that but I also have .com's and .org's etc so it would be quite a hassle to move everything.

But as the domain they want (and caused the penalty) is a .co.uk I will probably move it through Nominet (for £10).

Cheers,

Leo

Just make sure you control the email addresses listed as the domain's owner, technical and admin contacts. There is NO REASON to let your registrar put their contact details in - and if you ever have a falling out it makes moving much more difficult.

Email nominet.org.uk and tell them that your current registrar has frozen your account and doesnt let you transfer yoru name away, that shoudl be against TOS

just to keep you updated, I've used Nominet to transfer the domain out and change IPS Tag (sent the fax over the weekend) and today the transfer went through. From now on, I am going to spread the risk by having my domains with 3/4 registrars - just gotta find them
