Hi there, am not sure if this is discussed elsewhere. I have tried to find a similar discussion but to no avail. Anyway, my problem is that i have uploaded some files to my hosting company(which gives me the space free as it is my ISP) to make a home page for myself. I have also registered the domain name i wanted with godaddy.com which was reccomended by a friend. The problem is, i cannot point my domain name to my isp 's server(which is dslftp.dsl.pipex.com and i have a login name and password). In godaddy's website the only forwarding i can do is by pointing to another web address which is not what i want. Is there a way round this? Thanks

There are (or should be) three different entities here: your ISP (which gives you access to the Internet), the registrar (through whom you obtained and manage your domain name), and your server host (where your web site resides).

Your server host should have provided you with the DNS information for their servers. It is this information that you must enter into your account with the registrar, in order to "aim" users to the proper location.

The information currently in your account is probably the registrar's default DNS setting, for it you had bought hosting from the registrar, in addition to the domain name.

The situation you describe is almost identical to what I had. I purchased a domain name to point directly to my free web space. The problem that this had was that it was done as if it was a single frame over the free web space, so that what ever page you viewed it showed as www.purchaseddomain.com (ie without the /index.html or whatever).
Basically, I think that you need to set up your domain that you purchased to point to the free webspace, if this is not possible then I am not sure how you would do it. There are problems with this, with the redirection, in with what the results show in the search engines, etc. as well
How I solved my problem, was to purchased webhosting which costs me £20 a year and includes web mail, etc. It means I pay an extra £10 a year for the privaelge of hosting but it solved a lot of potential probelms, and through posting here, I took the advise of the the responses.
Just ask if you want more help or me to explain in detail
