Incredible - I just did a home-run on a generic (product) domain!

Didn't think any generic domain names were still available

I can't believe it myself, but a generic domain describing perfectly one of my products was available as:

  • genericdomain.com/net/org/biz
  • generic-domain.com/net/org/biz

I even got generic-domain.de - the one without dashes was the only one already registered (to a competitor).

Didn't think that any generic domains were still available nowadays (apart maybe from uglywarts.com - and even that may be taken).

Sure there are still some generics. Some people just don't register them if they don't see their worth. ;)

Congratulations pmk! Seems that you really did you homework on this one.

Do you see evidence that the new domain is receiving any type-in traffic?

Direct navigation traffic is one of the notable benefits of generic (non-trademark) domains.

Well, they are only set-up since this morning. But I expect some type-in traffic, even though it is a niche and attracts the more tech-savy people (the ones less prone to use type-in). Type-in will not be a major factor, but defending a technology-leadership position with such tiny details is a valuable asset in my industry too. That's why I was so surprised it wasn't taken already.

Trader, you are a member long enough to know that disclosing this kind of information is neither covered by the TOS nor usual behavior around here.

Sorry, actually forgot about the TOS in that regard because I am so accustomed to url's being posted so heavily at other forums. It should have been asked by sticky mail.

The fact self-promotion and URL postings are not permitted are reasons I find this forum so professional vs the ongoing marketing hype and barrage of domains for sale posts at other venues.
