Usually it is 30 days:

Some registrars have been known to hold the domain longer or place it in other "periods"

The (actual) redemption period for TLDs other than .com and .net seems to vary -- and can be far longer than 30 days. I'm not saying it is supposed to be longer than 30 days -- just that it can be.)

What is the tld of the domain you are trying to get?

I am looking to purchase an expired domain as well.

Will the google rank, and other factors of the last site be carried over to the new one? If it goes offline for a month and then reappears will it get immediatly spidered?

As the expired domain has links to it from other sites, will they be a positive thing for me or not? The new site would have immediatly 100's of existing incoming links, which I gather google is suspicios of.
