I had registered a domain at godaddy.com from 10/19/04 - 10/19/05 <that I decided to transfer to yahoo.>

My nameservers point to a hosting company <that isn't godaddy or yahoo>. when i now login into the yahoo small business owner control pael, it says my domain is pending. couldd someone please throw some light on whats goin on.

My widget domain at godaddy is under lock.Reading the FAQ site (after buying widget.com for 2 years at yahoo). I came across some terminology called re delegation ..Right now since my cp at yahoo is pending I cant access the nameservers. also reading thru the faq, it says I have to fiorst change the nameservers and point it to yahoo.why should I do that..

Can someone pls guide me on the cavetas before i actually change the nameservers on godaddy to direct it to yahoo. Well I am still going to maintain hosting at the same third party hosting comoany and I am not going to change to yahoo for hosting anytime....Please help me I am confused,

I know I sound confused lemme retrace what I did

1) Already have widget.com from 10/09/2004-2005 at godaddy
2) Registered widget.com at yahoo for 2 years
3) Now I cannot access cp in yahoo coz it says pending.
4) info abt me on godaddy and yahoo is diff..so will that affect PR. i just have 1 anyways :-)..gbot and yahoo just started doing some deep indexing..and regularly comes to my site and downloads abt 2-3 mb a day.(just the last 20 days).
I dont want that to be affected in anyway by the registrar transfer..

If someone could guide me..I would be very thankful....Thanks in advance. D

Your question is a bit confusing. What is the problem you are needing help with?

Are you having trouble accomplishing the transfer?
or
The transfer has been completed and you are confused about the ripple effects of that (e.g. name servers needing to be changed).

How long has it been since you initiated the transfer/renewal? Some registrars delay this for 7 days, perhaps in hopes you will change your mind and stick with them.

It sounds like you need to unlock your domain at GoDaddy before it can be transferred to Yahoo. You shouldn't need to change the name servers to Yahoo's name servers. The transfer from registrar to registrar should keep your name server settings intact, which will keep your site active and properly crawled by the search engines.

Okay thanks for your replies first of all.

Let me tell u what my question is again.
1.I bought a domain from godaddy (registrar godaddy) from 09/09-2004-2005
2.I yesterday saw an ad on yahoo to buy a domain and I reserved the same domain for 2 more years.
3.After the transaction I found out that Yahoo is not the registrar but some company called melbourne IT is the registrar.(so what did i actually buy then!)
4. The FAQ also cautioned that moving registrars could entail some kind of fees,

Updates today:
1. Yahoo site help tells me that to transfer nameservers I have to change nameserver settings at godaddy to YNS1.YAHOO.COM,YNS2.YAHOO.COM.
2. I did that and now my domain resolves to yahoo construction page.
3. I try to access the nameserver controls at yahoo but this is the message I get

"This account is not eligible for NameServer modification. Only domains registered through Yahoo! may modify this setting through the Yahoo! Domains Control Panel. If your domain is registered elsewhere than Yahoo!, you may make a NameServer change using their tools.".

4. when I do a whois. I see that my domain has my name and nameserver pointing to yahoo but it says that the registrar is still godaddy.
My big question is that why hasnt either yahoo or melbourne IT (the company yahoo says handles DNS) sent me an email asking me if i have to transfer registrars.

====================
Thanks a lot for your patience, I know I sound so confused but english is not my first language..Thanks

to econman,
"

I havent been able to initiate a transfer because I dont know who is going to initiate transfer. is it going to be {yahoo, melbourne IT} or godaddy. I havent receieved any emails from anyone but yahoo sent me an email saying

"Dear #*$!,

Congratulations! Your domain widget.com is now active. Visitors who go to your web address (www.widget.com) will now see the Under Construction page that we have set up for you, unless you have already logged in and created a starter web page or set up your domain to forward to another web site. Emails to your email forwarding address will also now be received if you have set it up. If you've not already logged in and completed these set up activities, now is a good time to do so. To learn more, see the instructions below. .."

and then some run of the mill instructions is displayed..

I dont know if i initiated transfer or just bought the domain for 2 years. are they exclusive events. could someone also answer this question.

Now that I bought widgets.co for 2 years, and dont transfer registrar. Will i still be able to set nameserver from godaddy to my hosting company and run website as usual for the next 2 years even though I havent renevwed domain from godaddy!

Thnx again

As the owner of a domain, you control whether it can be transferred to another Registrar. You initiate a transfer by going to the Registrar you want to transfer it to, and purchase a Transfer/renewal.

GoDaddy won't (didn't) release the domain for tranfser because you have "locked" it. You need to login to your account at GoDaddy, and try to "unlock" the domain before you can transfer it to Yahoo.

I'm not sure what Yahoo sold you. The price is lower than typical for a domain transfer/renewal, so you need to confirm that you purchased a transfer complete with renewal for the extra year or two.

If so, you should have received a message from Yahoo indicating that your existing Registrar has not authorized the transfer.

I suggest using Yahoo's "helP" service for further advice, since you can give them the specifics of the domain name, your account number, etc. (which can't be provided here per TOS).
