Transfering away from GoDaddy a domain with whois privacy

Steps for smoothest transfer of a domain (with whois privacy) from GoDaddy

I'm transfering a domain from GoDaddy (with whois privacy) to another registrar that has whois privacy.
Will the real registrant info be revealed in the course of the transfer?

Or, maybe it is required that you first remove the privacy from the domain before the transfer? If so, I've heard that if you make changes to the whois info (including domain privacy), GoDaddy will prohibit you from transfering the domain for 60 days. Is this true?

So, if you happen to know, please let me know what are the steps for the smoothest transfer of a domain at GoDaddy (with whois privacy) to another registrar (that has whois privacy) preferably without the registrant info being revealed in the process.

Thanks,
Andrei

Hello andrei and welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Did you ask GoDaddy and the receiving registrar how you could accomplish this?

I haven't been through the process of moving a domain from GD to another registrar whilst attempting to maintain the privacy status but I vaguely recall reading that it is entirely possible to do what you are asking = to maintain the privacy status. Otherwise, privacy would come at the price of being stuck forever with 1 registrar. I don't think that's the deal at all.

Do me a favor and ask GoDaddy and let us know what you learn.

Thanks.

GoDaddy's instructions for this are to remove the privacy *before* the transfer. There is a catch-22 for this however, because removing the privacy, changes the Registrant Info, which places the domain on a 60 day hold. I've seen several howls about this practice, but I think I've also read of at least one successful appeal. It may be simply a matter of speaking softly to prevail.

I thought that it was only changing registrars that triggered the 60 day hold.

Goddaddy seem to be more zealous - a new . = 60 extra days
