Be very careful you use for a WHOIS search before you buy a domain name.

"Domain name hijacking" aren't accurate terms to describe the gist of that article, especially when: a) no one has absolute exclusive rights to a domain name except for its registered name holder (and that's still subject to the terms and conditions of their service provider), and/or b) these domain names aren't registered to anyone at all. But definitely one should be careful what WHOIS service to use for.

On the other hand, some people have the unrealistic expectation the available name they looked up will still be there when they check again.
