Domain Name Junkie!

How do you use your domain names for profit?

I just purchased my 100th domain name and I'm sure that compared to many this is not much, but for your average person, it is a LOT! lol

Ok, what I want to know is when you have a lot of domain names and you have eventual plans to build all of them, but you are a one person business and there are only so many hours in a day:

How do you monetize the domains that are currently just parked?

  • Do you put them up for sale hoping for a profit?
  • Do you monetize them by using a service such as CashParking?
  • Do you just leave them parked hoping they'll rise in value for a later sale?
  • Do you place a for sale sign on the parked page?
  • Do you place affiliate links or banners on parked pages? If so, what are the best programs for this?
  • Do you have a specific plan in mind for every domain name you purchase?
  • Do you make a living off of purchasing and selling domain names alone?

    For other junkies:

  • Do you wake up in the middle of the night with domain name ideas in your head and as soon as you get up, you have to see if it's available?
  • Do you hear possible domain names when having a conversation with someone and some words or phrase hits you that it might make an awesome domain name?
  • Do you find yourself purchasing domain names when you already have what seems like tons of them and you'll be 90 years old by the time you could build them all?

I actually put content on those domains and let them get indexed and ranked by the search engines.

In the future, we're going to be seeing more "parking services" offer ways to put indexable content on domains that can get indexed and actually rank and bring in even more traffic.

Those parking services are beginning to realize that a domain is worth a lot more if it actually has content on it and is indexed, as PR, and has organic search traffic.

Thanks for the info, it's appreciated. May I ask, do you just put up one page of content for it or how many pages on average do you put on it? Like I said, it's a time issue being only one person running a business, but if you only need to put one page of content on them, that would not be as hard. Will it get indexed and ranked by the search engines with only one page?

Its a good idea to park them with a good traffic monetization company untill you prepare a real website to setup under it

wmuser, do you have some recommendations of good traffic monetization companies? I'd appreciate it. Also, do you have to pay for these traffic companies?

    Thanks for your help!

There are more parking services that you can "shake a stick at." (My father's saying).

    The larger ones:

    DomainSponsor/Revenue.net
    TrafficClub
    Fabulous
    Trafficz.com
    SedoParking
    SmartName
    HitFarm
    GoldKey
    GoDaddy

I'm certain there will be more to come. I'm waiting for the domain registrars to fully appreciate the model.

Thank you Webwork! I have read many of your posts and think you are doing a great job as a moderator, IMHO!

Do you feel in your experience that parking with these companies will get traffic or what exactly do they do for you? I've recently used godaddy cashparking and have made about 47 cents in the last couple of weeks! lol

I assume this is from type in traffic. How does one get traffic to a parked domain or is that part of the service of these parking sites that I'm unaware of? Thanks for any insight and information.

Most parking services won't allow you to actively promote your domains. They require strictly type-in traffic, or referral by a search engine. However, if you are getting search engine referrals, usually Adsense makes more sense, since you'll be getting a bigger revenue share.

Add some little bits of content and if you can't add much (or only at few domains), prioritize those you will be most likely developing further.

If you have an addictive personality, you will get trapped by web development sooner or later, so don't rely on parking domains only ;)

    Good luck, W.
