i have a bunch of domain names..
but have never sold one...
today i received an email: somebody asking to buy a domain name i have and asking how much i wanted for it. I replied...
They straight away sent the funds via paypal.
I find that strange?
How can they trust me straight away like that?
If I transfer the domain name.. can they somehow get the paypal charge revoked...
can i be scammed out of my paypal money after the transfer has taken place?
what do i need to do to prevent something like this?

I am not an expert on domain names, but do know about Paypal. If the buyer paid with a credit card via Paypal, they can do a chargeback.

Escrow services seem to be best (for protection), many are listed on this forum. I hope eveything works out for you.

If you use like godaddy print and save the transfer info if there is a charge back you are given a chance to explain, they will not just do it because he says, unless you do not reply or have no proof

Questions about "What can happen through PayPal to harm me?" really need to be addressed to PayPal.

I've done dozens of deals through PayPal, mostly buys, and never had nor caused a problem. I've also made a few sales through PayPal.

If ther price is <$1,000 U.S. there's plenty of people in the domain industry that will forward payment without issue or concern about escrow.

It's good to be trusted, isn't it? I've sent and received substantial sums to and from all corners of the planet based simply upon telephone conversations, emails and sometime simply reputation. No escrow. Just reputation.

You see, somethings are worth a lot more than the value of the latest deal. Reputation is one of those things. The Web can do a great deal to raise or lower your reputation in no time at all.
