I just stumbled by this forum in doing some research and this is my first post.
Much of my marketing is done verbally (radio, etc) so when you hear the name spoken because it contains words that sound the same but spell differently such as two-2 or for-4-fore-four you need take your best shot to type it as spelling it costs a lot of air time and people don't listen. Therefore I try to lock up all the possible variations on a name and point them all to the same site.
I've locked up all the spelling variations of my main domain for one web site except one. The variation is not a particularly useful name in its own right (at least in my opinion) and it appears the current owner has allowed it to lapse into the redemption period. I could sign on with a "backorder" service and may, however I don't know who is good or who is bad and I know you can't make a specific reccomendation here (which I actually think is a shame since it is really public feedback not endorsement).
My question is this. Is there a specific time that consititutes the "redemption period" or even a standard range? I noted in one post here somewhere that it was said that .com's drop between 2-3pm ET. If that is true and the redemption period is a specific length or range, then I can try to catch the drop myself (Ok, yes, I would make a poor staffer do it) or am I better just to pick a backorder company and hope they do their job. I can't see a big competition for this name but I would really like to obtain it to complete the block.
Any help is appreciated.
BTW- I'm glad I found this forum, I think I will learn a alot here --- hope you don't bite.
