I was interested in starting a website in a certain niche area, although the domain I want to use it is currently owned by buydomains.com. The domain I want doesn't have a price next to it, and I have to use a contact form to request a price from them.
Has anyone here had good experiences from BuyDomains.com? Does anyone have any tips before I request a price quote? My budget is limited right now, and I am afraid that if I request a quote right now (without purchasing), they will raise the price next time I ask them for a quote.
So what would you do if you were in my position? I could spend up to $500 for the domain, but don't want to request a price and have it be $2000+.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
This is the first time I have ever went through this company to get a domain name.
The thing is if I inquire about a price, but don't purchase a domain, what will happen the next time I try to buy it again? Would they raise the price on me knowing im interested?
I doubt they would raise the price, after all they are in the business of selling domains. In fact, after they send you the offer if they don't get a reply they may contact you to negotiate a price.
The nice thing about BuyDomains is that when you contact them they give you a price upfront, unlike a lot of sellers that ask you to make an offer.
It's sort of like buying a house it's much easier to find what your looking for and negotiate the price when the seller states their offer first.
Good Luck

Try emailing Matt Barker (mbarker@buydomains.com). He's the sales rep I usually deal with when buying from BuyDomains.
I have experienced domains jumping in price once I asked about them...so be prepared to buy on the first price sent.
If I'm not mistaken, their minimum price is $1,000 now..up from $688.

You're correct. The form that I would have to fill out says at the bottom that I would have to agree to pay at least $1,000 for the domain.
Here's one last question that I forgot to ask. Is having a ".com" domain make your site more psychologically professional? What I'm trying to say, is that from a user standpoint, are they more inclined to think of a ".com" when going to a site, than a ".net"?
The reason for me asking is that BD has keyword1keyword2.com (which I want to buy), but I can purchase keyword1keyword2.net for like $10.
Again, I thank every one of you in this thread for helping me out, and I appreciate all of the valuable input that you have given to me.

Some had a pricetags already (some as low as $288), and a couple were a bit more than that.
Here's a tip:
One time I requested a price on a domain name and I thought their price was too high, so I didn't buy it.
1 month later they sent me a followup email with a "special offer" (I think they claimed it was a St. Patrick's Day discount) for the same domain at 20% off. I had already found a domain, so I didn't follow up, but it could be a trend. If you can wait on the domain, then don't take their first offer and see if they send you a price discount.
Another note:
3 months after the "special" offer they sent me a final email telling me that due to "demand", the price of the domain was $200 more than they originally quoted the first time I asked for a price.
