I would like a particular .com domain. The WHOIS data says that it was registered in june 2003 ,and was due to expire in 2004. When you type the name in now, it redirects after a minute or so to a web site containing similar content.
My question is, how could the whois data seem so outdated? Does this happen often? If not, is the domain beng forwarded to that web site by accident, in that someone "forgot" that it expired? Does that ever happen? How can I find out if the domain really has been registered for the current time period? I'm somewhat hesitant about contacting the orginal domain registrar, in case they send a follow-up email to the original owner to remind them first...
Any thoughts you have on this are most appreciated!
Thanks for your quick response. I did check the original registrar, and they have the same outdated data. The data that is on there says that the domain would have expired on June 5, 2004. Which means means that the registration info should have been updated at least once since then. I'm going to wait a few more weeks to see if it changes...I'll post back here as well to let everyone know what happens as well!
Cheers,
Jeff
