I was wondering if the "-" in a domain affect my ranking in any way. I was trying to buy a domain and all the one i really like are taken, usually by park host :)

anyways i did find the one i want with "-" so it owuld be product-widget.com

just wondering if this will be a big difference in terms of being index by google or ranking

Thanks :)

This question comes up several times a week. Here's our most recent thread on the topic:

Just recently I've heard some people claiming that the hyphenated domain is doing better for them in the ranking, WIth over 100 factors in the algorithm, I doubt that they have tested this with any kind of rigor. And even if there is a small edge for now, it still won't last.

Any effect of the hyphen/no-hyphen issue is going to be minimal compared to so many other factors in the ranking algorithm. Pick what works best for the business altogether, which is usually the no dash version, I'd say.
