Hope an exception to the WW rule will be made in this case, a move to explicit content being hosted on .3x domains makes a lot of sense.

Though I fear it will just result in adult sites having both the .3x and the .com

isnt this market completely saturated anyway? i can see new ventures going for the 3x domains, but existing ones will probably a very slow migration.

That can happen in a number of ways I guess.

eg. If a major search engine makes it a condition to index such content only if its on that tld, that can be one such driving force.

It is official - .#*$! domain names are on their way. ICANN make it very clear that the use of these domains is entirely optional, and they can't stop porn sites from still using .com extensions. Regardless of industry, no popular web site would change their domain name unnecessarily, and porn sites won't either, unless...

Hosting services now have the power to make the internet safer for kids. Instead of saying "we'll host your porn, bring it on", or "sorry, no porn allowed on our servers", they can now say "we'll host your porn, but only if you use a .xxx domain".

Then browsers like FireFox and IE can block all .xxx domains, unless you get a special browser extension, only obtainable by declaring you are over 18 (or whatever).

Then, governments can make laws saying that all porn must use .xxx addresses.

Let's hope that hosting services take the initiative... perhaps just a couple of major hosts could create a snowball effect...

Great idea. We also need .con for nigerian scams,
and .spam for all sites that are in the business of delivering spam :)

And .kid for kid-friendly websites. That way we can make sure they only see sites that end in .kid. :p

It's official the phrase x x x WILL still get you put on many corporate proxy filters.
