For a new site of mine I am having difficulty finding a domain name.

All the keyword domains are taken. So I am thinking of just finding an interesting sounding fake word and registering it, like google or kozmo.

My question is: Which is better Fake Word vs. Keyword.com

Pick what is best for your business (branding wise) - don't worry about keyword.com or more likely keyword-word-word-keyword.com

Thanks! Ya you hit the nail on the head, although my niche is non-profit, the keyword has a dual meaning and basically everything with that word in it is taken, so it would have to be:

LongKeywordAndLongKeyword.com

In that case I would try to invent a short catchy name and go with that.

Could the keyword be part of a longer word? You can see now that keywords imbedded in a run-together phrase are being bolded. Something like (ok I see the Looksmart banner ) - in the word looksmart you have the words look, looks, smart and mart.

you can't get a keyword one anway so :).
The fake one might be better long term, especially if you plan on spending $$ to build the brand.

My domain is just part of my name -- how unimaginative is that? The domain comes up number 1 through 4 on SERPs for various keywords I'm focused on. Interestingly, searching for my family name results in my domain appearing somewhere on page two of SERPs.
